The US has a debt problem. It has grown its debt far faster than the national income for decades.
Over time, this has ballooned the annual fees in interest that the US must pay to service its debt. And the recent sharp increase in interest rates is only making these debt service payments more onerous.
To add insult to injury, America has once again hit the limit of its debt ceiling. Until that get raised — which we all know will require months of political theatre — the situation will only become more dire.
What will the repercussions be? How are things likely to get resolved? And what impact will it all have on the markets?
